Heidenspaß

Description

Heidenspaß is a Oculus Rift game in which you play a horrifying round of tag in the forest. Both players have totally different views on the game world.

The development of this jam game progressed surprisingly smooth and it was very well received at our jam site in Bayreuth where almost everyone played a round when we playtested it. I worked together with a friend who just started at the university and two other students from the third and fifth semester. I was responsible for major parts of the design and managed the technical side of the project.

Partly inspired by a poem from Goethe (Heidenröslein) and the features of the Oculus Rift, we made a local multiplayer game where both players play a round of tag. One player (the hunter) sees the world through the Rift (a dreamlike, bloomy world) while the other one sees the world on the PC screen and there it seems dark and full of terrors.

Furthermore, we added some mechanics which rely on your senses (e.g. a dynamic heartbeat and a trail left by the hunted player) and worked a lot with the revealing and hiding of information for both players to mold it into an exciting game of tag.
